From Oyster Farms to Carbon Markets: Meet SFM’s new Carbon and Natural Capital Analyst

SFM is excited to welcome Lily Fisher to the team as our new Carbon and Natural Capital Analyst—a role that brings together her deep roots in Tasmania’s primary industries with her growing expertise in sustainable finance and project development.

SFM’s Carbon and Natural Capital Analyst, Lily Fisher

Lily grew up on her family’s oyster and mussel farm on the East Coast of Tasmania.

“That upbringing gave me a first-hand understanding of what sustainable primary production looks like on the ground,” she says. “It also taught me the value of long-term thinking, stewardship and the importance of supporting regional businesses to thrive.”

That grounding in practical sustainability has shaped Lily’s career path. Most recently, she worked as a management consultant at ConnellGriffin, advising on major infrastructure and renewable energy projects across Queensland and New South Wales. There, she specialised in stakeholder engagement, commercial modelling and strategic planning—skills she’ll now apply to SFM’s growing portfolio of carbon and natural capital projects.

In 2025, Lily took time out to pursue further study at the London School of Economics, focusing on carbon accounting within sustainability reporting. The experience, she says, helped sharpen her understanding of the critical role data and transparency play in the climate transition.

“We examined real-world reporting challenges—from greenwashing and data reliability to the evolving role of regulation and assurance. I came away with a deeper appreciation for how transparent disclosure can build trust and long-term value, especially in sectors like forestry where integrity really matters.”

While in London, Lily also completed a short course in organisational change, exploring how businesses of all sizes can embed sustainability into strategy and culture. “There’s a real shift happening—from surface-level ESG reporting to action that’s embedded and accountable. That’s where I want to work: in that space where good data meets meaningful outcomes.”

At SFM Lily will work closely across the business to support projects from early-stage assessment through to delivery. Her remit spans data analysis, financial modelling and the development of robust frameworks for carbon and natural capital initiatives.

“Lily brings a rare blend of commercial insight, regional understanding and purpose-driven thinking,” said SFM’s Managing Director, Andrew Morgan. “With SFM entering the ACCU trading market through its strategic partnership with Clima, it’s the perfect time to have someone with Lily’s skills join our team.”

In addition to her professional roles, Lily remains actively involved with her family’s Freycinet Marine Farm, contributing to marketing and strategic planning initiatives.

“It’s a nice way to stay connected to the land and the community that shaped me,” she says.

Now back on Tasmanian soil, Lily is ready to help shape the next phase of SFM’s sustainability journey. “It feels like the right time to be working in this space,” she reflects. “There is lot of opportunity ahead—for landholders, for investors, and for the environment.”
